Question another one - apologies for this mass call for help!

Q16:
Soaring television costs accounted for more than half the spending in the presidential campaign of 1992, a greater proportion than it was in any previous election.
  • a greater proportion than it was
  • a greater proportion than
  • a greater proportion than they have been
  • which is greater than was so
  • which is greater than it has been

"soaring TV costs (plural) accounted for greater proportion in 1992 than in any other year"

B it is.

  • a greater proportion than it was => wrong because not parallel
  • a greater proportion than
  • a greater proportion than they have been => wrong because "any previous ..." mentions past tense not present perfect one
  • which is greater than was so => wrong because "which" is next to "campaign of 1992" = wrongly modify
  • which is greater than it has been => same (D)
Hence, (B)

hmm, a shift is allowed in the reference to the proportion b/w TV costs and total expenses in the campain from one year to another; but not the elements (as refered to by the pronoun "they")

Pls check the legendary Erin's explanation: http://www.urch.com/forums/gmat-sent...ts+acco unted (sc ets tv costs)

"they" is a must to segregate between "soaring television costs" and "presidential campaign".

hence i would go for C.

So according to Erin, B is the best. Answer key says OA is C, where as many believe A is good.

Would any one else like to comment on this?
