    Similar to rising interest rates

    Similar to rising interest rates, consumer and producer prices have been rising.



    (A) Similar to rising interest rates, consumer and producer prices have been rising.
    (B) Consumer and producer prices have been rising, as have interest rates.
    (C) As interest rates are rising, so have consumer and producer prices.
    (D) Consumer and producer prices have been rising, like interest rates do.
    (E) Consumer and producer prices, as interest rates, have been rising.

    My answer is B.

    A. In the original answer, Noun is compared with verb - comparison problem.
    B. have been rising, as interest rates have risen - OK.
    C. As X, so are Y - have is incorrect.
    D. again Verb is compared with noun - comparison problem.
    E. Prices are not increasing as interest rates.
    I'm a mutant; I need exactly 800 vials to transform myself back to normalcy - else I remain a mutant.

    Stumped!

    could any one of you explain me why E is wrong.. ??

    In b... Doesnt it look like that the interest rates are already done with their rise..? I mean... what i think is.. all the three things Consumer prices, Producer proices and interest rates are rising together!

    Please explain

    Surya, I think all 3 are not rising together - in the above example.

    If such were the case, then the sentence should be close to - "Consumer and producer prices along with interest rates have been rising".

    I guess the meaning is "Interest rates have risen first - Consumer and producer prices are rising too".
    I'm a mutant; I need exactly 800 vials to transform myself back to normalcy - else I remain a mutant.

    I think E is wrong because "as" is incorrect. "As" is used for phrases. Since interest rate is a noun, so we should use "like". My 2 cents...

    Lego... consider the below mentioned examples...

    x and y have been practicing hard, as has z done
    or
    x and y have been practicing hard, as has z been doing.

    Which one do you think would be correct.. ?
