    Brutal SC 5

    1. Legislation in the Canadian province of Ontario requires of both public and private employers that pay be the same for jobs historically held by women as for jobs requiring comparable skill that are usually held by men.

    (A) that pay be the same for jobs historically held by women as for jobs requiring comparable skill that are
    (B) that pay for jobs historically held by women should be the same as for a job requiring comparable skills
    (C) to pay the same in jobs historically held by women as in jobs of comparable skill that are
    (D) to pay the same regardless of whether a job was historically held by women or is one demanding comparable skills
    (E) to pay as much for jobs historically held by women as for a job demanding comparable skills

Official Answer - A, IMO D, please explain

    D is just too wordy
And A correct uses subjunctive mood

by using that......pay "BE" same for..

    Secondly,
In A correct comparison made has been made by using,

same for jobs .....as for jobs
On the same lines,B is incorrect because it violates subjunctive mood

    that pay........SHOULD BE.....

    IMO A.
Here as is used as for comparision. In that case the comparison is between the clauses which should be parallel in nature. Since, require is used in the main clause, that is required and the subordinate clauses cannot use should and must.

I agree with yo, KillGMat. Furthermore, Consider the full phrase:
to pay the same regardless of whether a job was historically held by women or is one demanding comparable skills usually held by men.
We know that both "demading" and "held" modify one (job); however, As above, it seems "held" modifies "skill"

Brutal SC 5 1.

    E) to pay for jobs vs a job is wrong.
D)was held or is one - wrong
    B) require and should are redundant

    Hence A is correct

'requires' is a word that indicates subjunctive mood...

There is a list of words in Manhattan SC which helps you to identify the subjunctive mood clearly

"Require" can be used in various ways as follows.

    1) require X Y
    2) require Y of A
    3) require of X Y

    4) require X to Y
    5) require X that V
    6) require of X that V

    Thank you!
