Assesing problems faced by migrants
In assessing the problems faced by rural migrant workers, the question of whether they are better off materially than the urban working poor is irrelevant.
(A) In assessing the problems faced by rural migrant workers, the question of whether they are better off materially than the urban working poor is irrelevant. (B) The question of whether the rural migrant worker is better off materially than the urban working poor is irrelevant in assessing the problems that they face. (C) A question that is irrelevant in assessing the problems that rural migrant workers face is whether they are better off materially than the urban working poor. (D) In an assessment of the problems faced by rural migrant workers, the question of whether they are better off materially than the urban working poor is irrelevant. (E) The question of whether the rural migrant worker is better off materially than the urban working poor is irrelevant in an assessment of the problems that they face. (B) and (E) are out..'they' does not hve a clear referent in both.
(A) In accessing ...., the committee....should be the right usage..modifier problem..so (A) is out. Frankly, i m not able to clearly pick between (C) and (D) I actually preferred (C) bcos i thought 'the question of whether' is a wrong usage..but the OA seems to be (D).. Can some one point any specific problem with (C) (apart from that it starts with 'A question' and not 'The question) ? |

The biggest problem with C is that it lacks clarity. The sentence starts with "A question" but the question that is used in the assessment of rural workers shows up in the second half of the sentence. The sentence becomes much clearer when"A question" is followed by what the question is that is used in the assessment,...which is "whether they [Rural workers] are better off materially than the urban working poor".
Choice D is the best answer. |
