OG#11 Q122 Doubt in Ans

More than 30 years ago Dr. Barbara McCLinton, the nobel prize winner, reported that genes can "jump", as perals moving mysteriously from one necklace to another

(b) like pearls moving mysteriously from one necklace to another
(c) as pearls do that move mysteriously from one necklace to other
(d) like pearls do that move mysteriously from one necklace to other
(e) as do pearls that move mysteriously from one necklace to some other one

My ans is (C) based on layman's concept of using "as" for phrase/clause , "like" for noun. However, Ans in OG is (B).

Any views please.

First understand the statement. It merely cites the simmilarities in action .

(a)as perals moving mysteriously from one necklace to another Genes can move as pearls shows that genes becomes pearls while moving

(b) like pearls moving mysteriously from one necklace to another - Like is used for comparing 2 nouns, not for comparing actions,

(c) as pearls do that move mysteriously from one necklace to other - actions are correctly compared by comparing the adverbial clauses.

(d) like pearls do that move mysteriously from one necklace to other - again same mistake of B

(e) as do pearls that move mysteriously from one necklace to some other one

Hence you seems to be correct .............but I need to check back myself as OG ans are not rep to be wrong.
