Although i opted D at first, a second look strengthens the position of E as a better option.

D can be ruled out because 'as big as' must be used to compare things that can be logically compared, while here we cannot compare 'a killer whale' to '30 feet long'. It needed to have been something like 'a 30 feet long anaconda' or something like that.

E is correct and the 'it', since it is preceded by the conjunction 'and', refers to the subject of the relative clause: 'killer whale'.

I think it is C - because it follows the parallelism.

Bear Bull, what do you think?

serGINho,

take a look at the following example.

a. the killer whale growing up...

b. the killer whale, growing up....

As bear&bull pointed out, these two 'growing' modify a different components of the given sentence.

like a) growing up... modifies 'the killer whale'

b) 'growing up' modifies a noun that can be the subject or object in the given sentence. sometime it modifies a whole preceding sentence as a summative modifier.

Since we are talking about the killer whale, b and c can be ruled out first.

Hope to add some value.

Don't you think that a comma is necessary before 'it'?

because 'it' introduces a clause. like .... , and it is

A. include the animal known as the killer whale, which can grow to be 30 feet long and is

B. include the animal known as the killer whale, growing as big as 30 feet long and ---> 'is' the verb is missing

C. include the animal known as the killer whale, growing up to 30 feet long and being ---> wrong for the use of 'being'

D. include the animal known as the killer whale, which can grow as big as 30 feet long and is

E. include the animal known as the killer whale, which can grow to be 30 feet long and it is --> use of 'it' is unnecessary

Why not B?

answer should be either A or D. probably 'as big as' is a wrong phrase here...so i will pick A.....

IMO A
