Tricky SC

If present metal prices continue to sharply rise, the value of the copper in a penny will soon be greater than the face value of the coin.
(A) If present metal prices continue to sharply rise,
(B) If present metal prices are continuing their sharp rise,
(C) Should present metal prices continue their sharp rise,
(D) Continuation of sharply rising metal prices should mean that
(E) Metal prices’ sharp rise continuing should mean that

C has a better structure

The original sentence is wrong as is. The adverb "sharply" should come after "rise" SPLIT INFINITIVE
This sentence employs a modifier : whatever follows the comma should modify the phrase before the comma.

B is wrong - tense error
D is too wordy
E makes absolutely no sense

C is grammatically correct

OA????

The OA is C.

I agree with you that A has split infinitive but what do you mean by the other statement - "This sentence employs a modifier : whatever follows the comma should modify the phrase before the comma"

but it's not like that split infinitives are always wrong.. sometimes they are acceptable. moreover A satisfies the IF.. Then conditional clauses (can't we look at A from this perspective)

Again its a matter of GMAT Preference, If split infinitive is not the case in GMAT, then Obviously A is correct. I just stated the modifier rule

i don't agree with you that "modifier rule" applies here.. these are just two independent clauses, a type of IF .. Then clauses . no conjunctions

adverbs should modify verbs -- In A, sharply should follow the verb "rise"
The correct sentence would be "If present metal prices continue to rise sharply" but we're not given this option in the answer choices.
Choice C is correct because it uses "sharp" as an adjective

I NEVER SAID MODIFYING THE WHOLE CLAUSE
