Short answer: expect to do better on the real thing.
Long answer: Like other posters I have found Manhattan to be much harder overall, with lengthier and more convoluted quantitative questions and more ambiguous verbal questions. Additionally, the Manhattan GMAT CAT appears to rachet up (and down) much more quickly. Three corrects in a row will push you to the 700-800 range, where, in Manhattan GMAT, the questions can be well-nigh impossible to complete in 2 minutes. One wrong and you're back in the 600-700 range. I've taken three Manhattan GMAT, one each of the past three weekends, and have scored in the upper 600's. Yesterday I took my first MBA.com test and got a 760. The results blew me away. The mba.com questions (same as the real thing) are simpler, more straightforward testing of concepts -- albeit with more data sufficiency, especially in the 700-800 range. After sprinting through Manhattan GMAT to complete the 37 quantitative q's in 75 minutes, the MBA.com test felt like a leisurely stroll. All that said, I'm a big fan of the Manhattan GMAT, despite its prognosticatory shortcomings. It will force you to become inured to tougher questions and tougher conditions. Come test day, you'll be more than ready. |

@nola,
wish your statement "mba.com questions (same as the real thing)", could be true. But believe me like the matrix that got more clever after sustaining first hit from Neo ( :-) ), the real thing has got tricky which can be attributed to more and more quant-experts tackling the exam. Therfore, whether it is Manhattan GMAT or GPREP the rule of game has changed a little bit. Earlier a mix of diffrent concepts was not that much prominent in gmat, but now expect co-ordinate mingled with probablity or perm-comb mingled with geometry. What remained same is the golden rule of having your basic as strong as Hulk's biceps. HTH

@ace_gmat,
MGMATs are a little tougher than the real thing. I gave 4 MGMATs and my scores were as follows MGMAT1 - 590 MGMAT2 - 630 MGMAT3 - 700 MGMAT4 - 710 In the real thing I got a 760. I dont think that there is a difference of such propotions but you could safely add about 20-30 to your score if not more keeping other variables constant. Also there is no way to ensure how many number of questions out of 41 will get you a score of 50 due the different level of difficulty of the questions. You can do 10 questions wrong and still score a 50.

If you have done no other SC material, I would strongly suggest doing the manhattan SC and learning what it teaches you. It has been a big helper to me.

Has anyone found the last Manhattan GMAT tests harder. I seem to have deteriorated over the last couple of weeks. I've had:
MGMAT1 - 670 MGMAT2 - 670 MGMAT3 - 670 MGMAT4 - 640 MGMAT5 - 640 MGMAT6 - 640 Got my test next week, not really feeling hugely confident anymore. |
