The question is pretty subjective. While you are not expected to have a knowledge of all the bugambooboo words in the dictionary, you will always need a decent vocab to understand the reading comprehension and attempt the critical reasoning and SC questions as well.

The best way is to give a sample GMAT test and find out where do you lack.

I already gave my GRE few years back before doing my masters. My question is how different is the GMAT verbal then GRE? BTW I am also from Houston/ India.............

I will not be able to comment on that as I do not know what GRE encompasses.
