Is GMAT really tougher in India??
I just read somewhere on the forum that GMAT is tougher in India?? Please tell me this isn't true as I'm registered to give it in Bombay next month. I don't live there but will be there for a short summer vacation... so I figured I might as well give it there. Now it feels like a terrible idea.

LOL! this is <drum-rollllllllllllllllllllll>
NOT TRUE!!!! Just because us Indians do extremely well on the GMAT doesn't mean they make it tougher specifically for us. By that reasoning, they should make it extremely easy for people in Greenland no?? And considering you can give the GMAT anywhere in the world, why should the GMAC discriminate against a specific region?? The GMAC states very clearly that the marks you score on the test are, and i quote Quote:
Note that the GMAT is LIVE, meaning an Internet connection is required. The GMAT Question bank is drawn from on-the-go, not from a pre-determined source. Finally, if it were really true, don't you think that the percentile score should also change? Yet scores are consistent world-wide. Its sad that people who don't study enough for the GMAT then go out and tell everybody else that the GMAT is tougher in India. It is NOT!! so stop believing in that. |

Somehow I differ with Neo2000,
I have checked with 6 guys 3 of them US-citizen and 3 of them visa/ead holders in US for 3 US-Citizens quant was as easy as even getting a repeat from OG 11 ! for the 3 'desi's quant said "who's your daddy ?" it's a different story that 2 out of those 3 desis still went to score 49/50 in qa :-) But the point is : Whatever the situation, there is no escape; either you break GMAT or GMAT will break you.

Sadly....I am sure Quant is tougher....
Just imagine....Indians getting 700 easily...If everyone gonna get 700 then how d skools are gonna distiguish between dem considering many people are with 3-4 yrs exp and IT back ground... But ok..fine...its tougher over here...but we CAN beat that too rt?? See d brighter side and move on.. :-)

It's NOT a different story that for those 2desis, the Quant was tough. It's the SAME thing! a score of 49 puts you in the 97-99 percentile range. Obviously the Quant is going to be tougher!! They are essentially seeing 700+ level questions. And you do know that the OG is only for 600+ level. A 40 in the verbal and there are in the 730 range! Your comparison is unfair--actually a comparison would be impossible. A desi in India or US, who is naturally at the700 level, will ALWAYS see tough questions! Quote:
As for GMAT score being the ONLY differentiator, you are over-valuing the importance. The GMAT score opens the door, its how you present yourself in your essays that make or break you. A 700 score is par for Indians simply because a lot of us are engineers. For somebody with a diff background, a 690 would often suffice. If a school has an average score of 713, and a class size of 200+, atleast 100 people are score less than 713. Just imagine how much lesser. |
