Urgent Help!
This is my first post. I'm one of those many Indians who are good with maths but not as good with Verbal.
I got a 650 (Q-50, V-28) on GMATPREP-1 yesterday. I had serious issues with my timing on the verbal section and surprisingly I even ran out of time on the quant section and had to click the last one. This is what I have prepared so far: Verbal: Manhattan SC, critical reasoning, reading comprehension, Kaplan 800, OG-Verbal (plan to go though the Powercore critical reasoning bible and OG-12) Quant: CATMaxPrep, OG-Quant, Kaplan 800 (plan to finish OG-12) My accuracy/hitrates and timings are as below: SC- 80-85% (2 min) critical reasoning-80% (2.5-3 min) reading comprehension - 60-70 % (3-3.5 min per question)....I simply suck at reading comprehension's PS - 90-95% (Mostly silly mistakes and Timing not an issue) PS - 90-95% (Mostly silly mistakes and Timing not an issue) Here are my questions: How to improve my speed on verbal section? I have been trying to solve 1000 SC, critical reasoning and reading comprehension. But, due to lack of explanations don't feel too motivated to solve them. Regarding critical reasoning: I generally get stuck with two answer choices, is there a strategy to eliminate one of them for each question type Regarding SC: Do you think its necessary to go through the Idioms list Any suggestions absolutely welcomed Thanks in Advance! |

I'm in the same boat. 660 on gmat prep this past sunday. Test is in one month. Lets strategize!! I just finished an 800score test tonight with a 710 Q44 V 42.
I took it in two pieces and reversed my sections randomly. For reading comprehension, are you trying to read the whole passage? You need to figure out a better way of attack. An outlining strategy has helped me. You retain more info if you are writing while reading. Manhattan GMAT has a great book that will help. It is like an hour or so read. You can pick it up for under 20 bucks I think. |

For exercises on Verbal, grab a Wordlist Workbook from edusoftech.com
Regarding idioms, if you just want to check out a huge list of idioms with their meanings, go to usingenglish.com (its free). However, for a detailed learning, check out 'idioms in english' co-branded by ETS, also available at edusoftech.com Hope this helps. - mad_dy |
