    Critical Reasoning Question

A recently published article on human physiology claims that enzyme K contributes to improved performance in strenuous activities such as weightlifting and sprinting. The article cites evidence of above-average levels of enzyme K in Olympic weightlifters and sprinters.

Which of the following if true, would most strengthen the article's conclusion?

    (A) Enzyme K levels are the most important factor affecting the performance of strenuous activities.
    (B) Enzyme K has no other function in the human body.
    (C) Enzyme K is required for the performance of strenuous activities.
    (D) Enzyme K helps weightlifters more than it helps sprinters.
    (E) Strenuous activities do not cause the human body to produce unusually high levels of enzyme K.

    Say wut??

    Re: Critical Reasoning Question

    Choice A for me.
Strengthen question - use of MOST in choice A which makes the argument more strengthen.
Whereas, I think Choice E goes as an assumption and not as strengthening choice.

    Re: Critical Reasoning Question

E seems right to me... (it is an assumption but assumptions can strengthen an argument sometimes)
we can discount the fact that strenuous activities give rise to unusually high enzyme K levels --> we've removed an alternate explanation that could weaken the argument. --> from the stimulus we know enzyme K improves performance in strenuous activities therefore there must be some other reason for its existence

I'll admit A seems pretty good too.

    Re: Critical Reasoning Question

it's gotta be E only, i hd chosen A as i hd not read any of th other choices before. (as i thought A ws fine)

But then Q asks us "would most strengthen the article's conclusion"

    Re: Critical Reasoning Question

E seems to set straight the chronology of a casual relation, if it exists.
