Kaplan Verbal Test

Well I finished the verbal book and must say the verbal questions are hard, especially the CR questions. I could never really finish on time but last night I took the verbal test and did pretty good. I finished with over 5+ minutes to spare and never felt rushed. I scored 33/41 or 80%. I think that if I can continue to hit these numbers I can hopefully get better that 80th percentile on the verbal section. Anybody else doing the Kaplan verbal?

Re: Kaplan Verbal Test

Nicholas,

I think i am following your posting. Fine i just started with Kaplan Verbal to start my GMAT preparation from square 1.

I was 50% in aptitude in SC without any preparation when i attended the practice questions. I read thro Kap explanation for the SC and took the next practice set 1 and scored 60%. But for test 2 and 3 again 60% only. I took these tests after reading spideys notes for GMAT and reading grammer. I am worried. Is my SC aptitude only this!? for ever. Or the Kap allows max to secure only this.

But the CR part right in the first excercise without much preparation in Kap is scored 72%. What does this mean. Can you please help me to analyse and comprehend. I have still not touched RC.

But now your averaged score in verbal comprising of three is 80% meaning good. So kap is not that tough in verbal means you are exceptional.

I'm sorry, but I can't really provide any helpful comments regarding anyone's studying at the moment because I myself need help; and I have not taken the exam yet. Based on the little that I do know - Kaplan is a lot harder than the real exam, so if you are scoring 60, give yourself at least a 70, or something like that.
Best wishes to you!

Re: Kaplan Verbal Test

Cute, allI can say is practice practice practice!!! Make sure you understand your mistakes as well. The idiom section in Kaplan is wonderful and should help you. Keep studying those sections. For RC, speed reading was the key for me. The faster I read the more my mind stays on the subject. Get a basic grammar book to help you out with the sentence correction. The book you should buy is called, "The least you should know about English." This book, although basic for me, helped me substantially with stupid mistakes. I hope you kick butt!!

Re: Kaplan Verbal Test

KAPLAN VERBAL BOOK

SC PRACTICE SETS
1. 14/22 = 64%
2. 15/22 = 68%
3. 16/22 = 73%

RC PRACTICE SETS
1. 8/18 = 44% OUCH!!
2. 14/18 = 78% LEARNED THE METHOD OF SPEED READING HERE.
3. 13/18 = 72%

CR PRACTICE SETS
1. 8/16 = 50% OUCH!!
2. 10/16 = 63%
3. 8/16 = 50% OUCH!!

VERBAL TEST
TOTAL 33/41 = 80% YEAH!
SC = 13/15 = 87%
RC = 10/14 = 71%
CR = 10/12 = 83%

AS YOU CAN SEE FROM MY SCORES, THE KAPLAN CR PRACTICE SETS KICKED MY BUTT. HOWEVER, THE TEST SHOWED THAT I IMPROVED ON CR SUBSTANTIALLY. RC WAS INLINE WITH WHAT I EXPECTED AND I DID BETTER IN SC.
OVERALL THE VERBAL TEST SCORE WAS GOOD FOR ME. I WOULD LIKE TO GET A HIGHER SCORE, MAYBE 37/41 = 90% THIS WOULD BE NICE.
