Sybersport
I just realized that I haven't seen any posts regarding what everyone does for a living. So I'll start it off: I own a business called Sybersport Racing www.sybersport.com Sybersport is a wholesale/retail distributor of high performance auto products. I also own a small manufacturing company called SyberCNC www.sybercnc.com I manufacture billet aluminum parts and accessories. I do quite a bit of business on Ebay too. I'm interested in doing my MBA because I think I'm more of a manager/entrepreneur than a small business owner. My business has really kept me from going anywhere or doing anything exciting, and I have always worked better in a "team" atmosphere. I have found someone to take over Sybersport Racing, and I plan on keeping SyberCNC as a side job while I'm going to school. I'm applying to do my MBA at the U of Western Ontario (Ivey), York University (in Toronto), and U of Manitoba (where I live, in Winnipeg.) I hope to get into Ivey, but York would be a great school as well. I'm interested in consulting and brand management. There you go, that's me! How about you? passedover
Hi! I got my undergrad degree in Industrial Engineering 1994. I went to work for an auto manufacturer as a manufacturing supervisor. I did that two years and a half years before transferring over to the corporate IT Dept. I have been a mainframe systems programmer for the past 7 years. I received a promotion from an analyst position to a specialist job after three years. We were just told a few months ago that IT staff should not pursue a technical career path. Thus, my expectations of receiving a well deserved senior specialist position have been summarily dashed. Apparently, our company is looking to outsource and offshore a lot of IT work. Thus, we were told to pursue career paths of relating to the management of vendors, contracts, and projects. Of course, we don't have access to that type of training. So.... my only recourse is to get outsourced, downsized, retrained, or shafted. I choose to control my destiny and to meet my company's cryptic career advice by pursuing an MBA. Also, like you, I have a business on the side. A few years ago (2001) I attended auctioneers college to learn a side career. It's a small family business that I enjoy. We have done five auctions and I have learned so much about business in general. I also learned that there is much that I do not know. :) So, an MBA will help achieve success on that front too. Bliss
I'm studying Information Management (professional education) and almost definitely graduating in July. :) At the moment I'm working at a Facility Management department at a hospital, doing my final internship there for 20 weeks. I want to enter a one year master course in university which requires taking the GMAT and getting a satisfactory score of 550. :) My goal is to get more though, but we'll see. :)
