Hello
I have posted the same query on the "Suggestions! Feedback! Questions! Forum" also, but since I was not sure where to post it, I have inculded it here too. If I am not mistaken, I read it somewhere on this forum itself that taking the GMAT is easier in the USA as compared to elsewhere ? Please correct me if I am wrong. If its true, can someone lead me to that specific thread / post, because I am unable to find that information again. Or can someone verify the same for me : Is taking the GMAT easier in the US as comapred elsewhere. No offence meant to anyone. PS: 1. I NEED the link to that particular therad, where it was mentioned so. Its really important I get that thread because I have to show it to someone, and I am quite sure that I read the same, otherwise where would I get the idea from ? 2. Need a verification for my query. Thanx Nayna |

Re: Taking GMAT in USA is easier ??
Nayna,
I doubt the validity of this claim. If ETS starts discriminating on the basis of where the test is administered, they can be sued for serious damages. There are a lot of rumors that float around every so often. Instead of worrying abt the rumors, it makes more sense to focus on your preparation. Good luck! |

Hi Nayna,
I agree with securitygeek. I doubt that taking a test in the US is better than taking it anywhere else. People like to create rumours on the internet and I believe this is just a rumour. |

Re: Taking GMAT in USA is easier ??
Well, I suppose there are some advantages too. Some of the materials contain text that are drawn in from the american system and this gives a person familiar with this country a better advantage than someone from outside united states.
For Example, if you dont know the value of dime or nickel, it will be extremely difficult to get a fairly simple quants problem right. Yet another example is where you see passages in RC drawn from american governmental programs or policies. It becomes more familiar to someone who has read american history and follows american media. These type of questions really starts bothering you if it appears in CR. Consider this a simple CR questions where statistics are collected from 2 county's and a generalization is applied on the state. There are many countries which do not follow the county system. A test taker would actually have to realize that county is a subset of a state inorder to answer the question. These are my observations from going through practice material. I do not know how actual GMAT will treat this type of material. However, there are definitely a number of passages from american revolution, american history and governmental policies which gives people in US a advantage as they can relate these passages to something they have learnt or heard. |

Re: Taking GMAT in USA is easier ??
My reasoning is this:
ETS is an 'American' organization conducting the GMAT exam for admission to 'mostly American' schools. The people who write the questions for GMAT are also 'mostly American'. So is it a surprise that most of the RC and CR questions revolve around American history, society and socioeconomic issues? Inspite of this, most Asians do better than the American students. So in the final analysis, does it really matter whether you know abt American history/economy/dimes/nickels? |

Re: Taking GMAT in USA is easier ??
Guys guys guys.....wait a minute. I think that my question is leading to a confusion here.
What I meant to ask was in relation to my GMAT scores, i.e. If I take the GMAT 'Test' in the US, will I get a better score as compared to taking a test here in India, bec I think I saw it on the forum plus one of my friend also told me the same thing that 'U will get a better score if you give your GMAT exam in USA !', I wanted to know how true is this statement bec. she was adviced the same by her tutor. But I guess Swizz05 & SecurityGeek have answered it. Its better if I focus on preparation then on other irrelevant things. A thnx Charli Chaplin, for making me realise that I need to be very specific and clear about what I want, or this can lead to confusion. But your information was helpful and true to a certain extent. Nothing is Impossible, the key is to practise alot and make yourself familiar with the American way of living & working, coz thats where you'll be if you plan to apply for addmission. Thnx again.....all..... Nayna |
