i have a good one years time before i plan to write GRE...
how do i start off and how can i use this time effectively to crack the exam? some of u may feel one year is too much but i want to prepare slowly and more importantly pace the whole thing well without any tension of having to complete within a cretain time period.

also can someone suggest some good software to download other than the one in http://www-ec.njit.edu/~grk4352/
that gives the pronounciation of the words along with the meaning, root and usage

You have plenty of time. For software, try to get Powerprep. The GRE sections of this site can guide you thru.

A year's kinda a long time to prep. I'd do vocab now and not start the practice tests until a few months before. You'll burn out. Learn new words steadily and then start your practice tests 3 or so months before.
