Hi Erin; Sorry for the late reply.I just took the computer to the service to have them see if the prob. was with mt comp. But it's not.Whenever I start the Kaplan Cd-Rom either it won't start or when it starts,it just locks the comp.It just won't let me do anything. I emailed Kaplan, but they won't do anything. What do you think I should do? ![]() |

I think that kind of thing is hard to troubleshoot. There's probably some compatibility problem between the software and your computer. It could be anything--the sound card, video card, or something else. What OS are you running? I've noticed some problems with certain software program with XP.
Have you tried the critical reasoning-ROM on any other computers? |

Matrix, find the answers to these questions.
(1) what is the Operating system ? (2) what is the maximum speed of you CDROM drive.? Or When did you buy it (the drive)? (3) Is the Kaplan CD scratch free ? Even finger-prints free ? (4) Have you tried the Kaplan CD on other PCs. (5) Is autostart enabled in the computer ? Carefully perform these operations, don't change anything now! 1.Right click on "My Computer" & go to "Properties." 2.Choose the "Device Manager" tab. 3.At the top of the list should be a line for "CD-ROM," click on the + symbol & open that option up. 4.Any CD-ROMs drives in your system should appear.Single click on the line to highlight it. 5.Click on "Properties," then the "Settings" tab. 6.Look for the box for "Auto Insert Notification" which could be unchecked or checked. What is it ? Checked or Unchecked ? |

What is the speed of your drive :52X, 48X, 32X, 24X, 16X You mentioned that the CD starts by itself, is it the Kaplan CD or some other CD.? I never heard of a webcam replacing a cdrom entry in the device manager list. Looks like I am learning something new here !:o IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO PERFORM THE FOLLOWING OPERATIONS, THEN DO NOT PERFORM ! Disconnect you webcam and then try... If you know how to install and uninstall the webcam, then allow me suggest that, you must uninstall the webcam, and then check whether cdrom entry is found in the device manager list. if no, then , reinstall the cdrom drive , by selecting the "Install new hardware" option in the control panel. Report to your hadrware vendor that you are seeing the webcam entry instead of the cdrom entry. I doubt whether all this procedures will help !...but there is no harm in trying....I also doubt your CD is spoiled. |
