How to answer Reading Comprehension type questions well
It is not uncommon to be fazed with questions related to reading comprehension. Many students are actually afraid of attempting the RCs in the first place itself. Mastering the questions related to reading comprehension requires extensive practice and efforts.

In order to attempt these questions effectively, you need to have extensive reading habits. Reading the newspapers and keeping a track of current issues concerning the society can be helpful as it will keep you educated about various topics. Good reading speed and simultaneously grasping what you are reading is important. For this, you require extensive reading habits which cannot be inculcated in a matter of few days. Develop this habit early on. If you have a good vocabulary, it will prove to be very useful.

Some of the tips that can help you are as described:

Ø One tried and tested approach for appearing the reading comprehension section in competitive exams like CAT and GRE is reading the questions first. This will give you an idea about what you have to look for.
Ø Make sure you answer the questions only after you have gone through the entire passage.
Ø Use a pencil and jot down the points in rough while you are reading the passage. This will prevent the need of re-reading the passage while looking for answers.
Ø Do not lay too much stress on facts and figures that are mentioned in the passage while reading. Only keep in mind where these things are located in the passage.
Ø Once you have read the passage, recollect or summarize the entire passage in your mind. This will help you in answering those questions that are based on deriving conclusions from the passage.
Ø Whenever you are answering any question, use the elimination technique and quickly eliminate a couple of options.
Ø When it comes to choosing from almost similar options, let your common sense dictate the terms. Do not have any pre-conceived notion about the subject and all your knowledge base should be strictly on the basis of the passage given.

Hope the above helps.
