OG 11th Edition Review
hi all.
As you might have seen my earlier post in other threads, I am trying to move from 5xx level to 7xx level.. after practicing with Kaplan, Princeton and OG 10th edition for last two months, iam finally moving to start my preparation with OG 11th edition. I will try to keep this post alive and request all of TM'mates who are practicing with OG 11 to put their valuable reviews as they go through the process. I started my preparation with OG11 two days back. As suggested by the ETS in the book, i took Diagnostic Test which is first time published in any OG till date. I could finish test in one day which was having 48 questions on Quant and 52 Questions on Verbal. And to be honest, my first impression was that all questions appeared in the diag. test was definitely from higher difficulty bin. May be it was meant to be like that to wake us up and give a shock treatment to work hard on following sections. At the end of test, ETS has given Scoring guide just to give you a picture where do you stand. Unlike other diag. results, ETS score guide classifies your result, based on number of correct answers, into four categories such as Excellent, Above Average, Average and Below Average. Well my results was all falling in average category except for CR which luckily fell in Above Average score range. Having done so many test previously, this time around i want to put focus more on quality than quantity. So last two days i spent on analysing each and every question whether it is right or wrong and decided to keep track on it. I have decided to take 50 questions a day, 10 each from PS,DS,SC, CR and one passage. And Review the test very thoroughly before moving to next 50. That way i will hope to finish 800 questions in 16 sessions. My next update will be after i do my first 50 questions. Please post your reviews as we go on evaluating and providing useful help to all.. |

OK.. here is the latest update on OG 11 preparation..
it was all going as per the plan untill this friday when i took Kaplan CD test. oh boy!.. I got once again 540..(Q38, V23),i was so disappointed with the score that it took more than a day for me to come back to normalcy. Here is what happened.. after couple of months of serioud preparation..and postponding my initial G-Day date from 11th September to 15th November, i revamped my prep strategy to focus only on OG and Full length Tests. I odered OG 11th and promptly recieved it within four days. I started my second & new round of preparation on 2nd september. with 10 weeks to go before G-day, i planned to spend first whole month of September on studying concept and strategies from Kaplan, Princeton, & IMS. At the same time i was taking full length adaptive test from CDs once every week (on every Fridays), in an G-DAY simulated envrionment. I was writing AWA as well in these test. My scores was as: First Test was IMS CD test - I got 540 2nd Test was again IMS CD Test - I got 570. 3rd Test was PowerPrep Test 1 ( Which was Repeat for me) - I got 645 4th Test was from Princeton CD- I got 640 This results was really pumping me alot to move forward becase atlast i was able to break 5XX level and making progress towards 7XX.. Incidently, i have to break my preparation for about two weeks for some personal reasons. My wife deilevered a baby boy on sept. 25th & I became Father for the first time. This was bigtime for me.. and i had to keep away from prep for about two weeks. Then from 2nd week of October (13th) i started with OG 11. I planned to do 50 questions on each day (10 each form PS,DS,CR RC & SC). I religously followed this schedule of 50 a day. And upto now, i had finished 1/3rd of OG about 200+ test. AS of today, i got 88% correct in Quant and 90% in Verbal. Typically I start my preparation Everyday by analysing every question (correct/incorrect) of previous day and then take 50 question test. It all went well untill firday when i landed with 540 score again. But anyway, iam back on ground and i will be doing my next 50 today. If all goes well and i dont miss any day of preparation, then i will be completing OG 11 by 31st October. And then on i am planning to take everyday one full length test till my G-Day on 15th Nov. Sorry for keeping this post for so long, i wrote this for the help of others and very crucial feedback from all of you guys as to whether am I on track or not. Please advice me, I look forward to your valuable feedback. zash |

hi ppgmat.
I can understand what mydreamGMAT is talking about IMS CDs. I too had high hopes on IMS. I enrolled with IMS for MaxGMAT correspondence course, more than a year ago. I think the best thing about IMS is their BRM materials, if somebody has enough time they should spend two months just mastering those BRM material but it is hardly for anyone to have such patience to master those BRM. Atleast I didn't had such patience to do it carefully because it contains too much details and so many concepts. I started with it but left it mid-way. As far as CD test are concerned, I had taken 3 test from it and two paper test. Its unbelievably toughest among all the material available with me which includes Kaplan, OG and Princeton. But that is not the reason why i dropped IMS CD test from list, instead i felt like it is way too off from regular GMAT type questions. I believe it is in line with IIM/CAT. Anyway as MydreamGMAT says, do not focus it right now since your G-Day is approaching very fast. Put all your energy in OG (10 or 11) and take tests from Kaplan, Princeton, GMATprep & Powerprep. try to take one test of powerpep first and then all other tests and then take the 2nd test of Powerprep. Do make sure that you take the test with an killer attitude and with alot of freshness suitably after a nice nap. Ofocurse if you take the test exactly as per the G-Day timings, it will be good. Hope this post will help you.. All the best.. zash |
