Hi Vlee,
First off if you want to do well you will definitely have to prepare for the gmat in my opinion. I know lots of very intelligent people who have taken the gmat w/o preparing for it and wished they would have after the test was done. This is not to say that you wont and can't do well on it w/o preparing. For all I know you could be one of those people who do well on these kinds of tests. As for me I definitely need to prepare. Second, with 3 0r 4 days left, I would at least get acquainted w/ the format of the test. Examples being the number of questions in each section and concepts being tested. That way you wont be shellshocked when you take it. As far as OG , Kaplan and other guides mentioned, you should be able to get them at a major book store. If you live in the states, Something like Borders or Barnes and Noble. However I had to order my O.G because they always were out of stock. You can order them through the internet anywhere. Since time is a factor for you, you can download the powerprep software for free at gmat.com and this is essentially what the gmat will look like to you. Of course the questions will be different. About the gmat secrets thing. I think that would be a waste of money, I believe Erin had mentioned that it basically isn't any different from the techniques that you can get from Kaplan or princeton etc.. But don't quote me on this. As far as you getting a 680 on it. It depends on your background etc.. w/o knowing any of that there is noway anyone could speculate how well you will do w/o preparing. But I do know this. If you visit the just finished gmat forum , you will see many people would love to have that type of score and have prepared for it and are still trying to prepare for it. Anyways I wish you luck, and don't forget at least download the powerprep. Hope this helps in some way. |

Hi again Vlee,
I wouldn't say you were doomed. And it wasn't my intention to make you feel that way. Go to the test with a postive attitude and who knows you might even score an 800 :-) You mentioned that you might have problems with the vocab and grammer and math section. You won't have to worry about vocab too much because it isn't tested. Now as far as grammer you will have to know it well, since sentence correction is part of the verbal section. As far as Math's number properties, algebra, word problems, etc.. will be tested. It seems to me that you need to definitely download that powerprep and it will give you exactly what the format will be. It also goes over most of the concepts tested. I know you have 3 days left, but if you have time get the Kaplan 2003 gmat book and at least read the introduction which will give you some more information about exactly what is tested. It also gives you the math forumulas and concepts that are important on the gmat. After doing the powerprep go over the explanations of each problem you got wrong . Although it won't be the same problem on the test. There is a high probability that there will be one like it and at least you will know how to solve it. Or at least make a smart guess. I don't know about the mph bookstore, we don't have that chain of bookstores where i live it would not hurt to try to see if they have the O.G. If not the internet is the best place. Like amazon.com. Remember Vlee, if you don't happen to get the score you want on the gmat, you can always take it again. Of course this depends on your money and time situation. And if you do take it again you will atleast know more about the gmat. If you cancel this close to the test date you won't get any refund. But that is up to you. And if thats the case you might as well take it and see how you do. You also have the option of taking it, but then cancelling your scores after. But you won't know how you did. Its all up to you though Good luck!! |

Do NOT take the test if you haven't prepped. Reschedule it for 2-3 months from now and spend that time getting familiar with it and doing practice questions. It would be a huge mistake to just wander in and take it without spending some time to prep.
