A.
..plastics are taking more time to deteriorate....than they originally seemed (would take to deteriorate). 'It' does not seem to refer to anything.....

C, D, and E are out because of "it".
Between A and B, vote B -- S+ seem+ adv.

Whats the problem with it - does it not refer to Time? I would have chosen E.

I would have gone with D

Plastics is singular, hence 'they' is ruled out
The pronoun after than would refer to nearest noun which in this case is time. 'seemed' is past perfect tense hence thus it refers to somthing that happened before the current assessment. In this case the comparision will be more meaningful if we refer to time as current time assessment is compared to previous one.

"Plastics is singular, hence 'they' is ruled out"
Then why "plastics are taking more" ???

I would have said A. Should be "they" and if it was B, it should be "it seemed TO orginally"

M.O., can you post the OA for this now?
A & B are the same and have the same unclear pronoun they. The "it" in D is like "they" in A & B with singular/plural mismatch to boot.

Between C & E, I'll say C since originally should modify plastics and not the undefined "it".
