How to avoid careless mistakes?

This may be a stupid question, but can someone please tell me how they keep themselves from making stupid mistakes in Quant?

I keep making ridiculous mistakes. For example, in PS sometimes I will forget to do the last step of a problem and, of course, my result will be one of the answers.

In DS I will forget to check the second answer for sufficiency in itself, or when evaluating it by itself I will take information from (1).

Should I just slow down and be more careful?

All in all, I did all the PS and DS in OG11 and a answering around 90% correctly with these mistakes.

As a side note, if I can get about 90% of og, how do you think I should be able to do in terms of a scaled score for quant?

ptumati is on the way!
This carelessness is primarly due to restlessness. I had this problem last year. I solved it through meditation. Try meditation... join in one of the Art of Living course near your area. you need atleast a month to get rid of this problem.

just double check each answer...

get your answer, click on it but dont submit.

then re-read the question and input the answer to make sure it fits....

Finished the test!

Thanks for the replies. I didn't actually see the suggestions until after I took the test! Coincidentally I ended up doing the same thing as chrisw suggested, although I hadn't planned on it!

I will be writing a quick debrief, but the exam went well - 740. Thanks for the help!

Another method is to solve problems in two different ways.
For example, on most P&C problems, there are usually more than one way of getting the right answer. Similarly for some algebra problems, you can solve them algebraically or plug-ins. However, this depends on how you are handling the time-constraint.
