Help needed..Where to start?
Hi..I have browsed a few threads on the topic of starting GMAT prep with which book and the most likely answer seems to be OG 11.
But i have a question here...do we need to do the diagnostic test first before proceeding with the prep to have an assessment of our calibre?? The reason why i'm asking this question is, i'm in IT industry for around 3 years and have not touched maths since then..so will it be wise enough to go for test with out brushing the fundamentals or do i need to brush my fundamentals before going into the test? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! |

Hi Necron_immortal,
I think that taking the Diagnostic Test is a good chance to know "where" you are. Also, it gives you an impression of how the GMAT is. When I started with my Preparation, my situation was similar than yours (I had 5 years without reviewing any Math) and my Diagnostic Test was terrible However, it was useful for me because motivated myself to really study. In my experience, I started my GMAT Preparation with other books than OGs. I used "The Princeton Review" (Book + CD). I think that this book is great for beginners and also has a Diagnostic Test. Then, I used Kaplan Higher Score (Book + CD) and, after that, both OG 10th and OG 11th. Because I am a non native speaker, for the Verbal Section I practiced from the two OGs. For the Quantitave Section I recommend you the Exercises of OG 10th which are harder than OG 11th. I hope this helps you ![]() Cheers. |

In my point of view OG11 quant is good enough for practice. Do a search in 4shared.com - free file sharing and storage and 5GB of free space to upload and share your files, photos, videos and music - eSnips.com for the material. Thanks a lot!!!! ![]() |

Hi lalitgupta1980,
In my experience, I practiced with the exercises of the OG 10th Edition. Many friends told me that for Quantitative Section the OG 10th is harder than the OG 11th. Before that, I also practiced with Kaplan High Score (book + CD) and did the exercises of the GMATPrep Software before the Test. I hope this helps you ![]() Cheers. |

Hi lalitgupta80:
I would begin Quantitative with Manhattan or Princeton Review, looking for explanations of the mainly treated topics in order to understand the gist. Then I would go through Kaplan, looking for tougher q's and finally OG 10 & 11. |

Hi Lalitgupta,
I think the most important part about quant is working on your fundamentals..like, knowing all the basic formulas etc. If you look the front part of each OG book (quant part) there's about 10-20 pages that summarizes the range of topics that appear in the exam, such as statistics, geometry, equations etc. I would recommend that you tear that part out and read it whenever you have the extra time. I made a little booklet for myself and read the formulas/equations from and back from work almost everyday (I take the subway to work). This method definitely worked for me, as my quant improved from an initial 42 on my prep to 47, 48, and 49 on each of my three exams. Good luck! |
