Scoretop members to pay the price
The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia issued a default judgment awarding the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) damages in the amount of $2.3 million in a copyright infringement case brought by GMAC against the web site known as Scoretop.com. As part of the judgment, Scoretop representatives are prohibited from further infringements of GMAC’s intellectual property rights.
GMAC sued the site and its owners for distributing copyrighted GMAT-related materials without GMAC's permission. Students who used the site to try to improve their scores on the Graduate Management Admission Test may regret it. The council has seized a hard drive from a server used to run the Web site, and says it will notify business schools of anyone who violated its testing policies by using the site. The council, which administers the admission test, will also cancel those students' scores. The seized hard drive contains substantial information about the individuals who participated in Scoretop’s unlawful activities either as employees or as "members" of the Scoretop site. GMAC has also seized the Scoretop domain name, which it now owns and controls. What do you guys think? How would the GMAC know who were the members who used the materials? Would they just match the email address?

Shutting Down a GMAT Cheat Sheet GMAC said any students found to have used the Scoretop site will have their test scores canceled, the schools that received them will be notified, and the student will not be permitted to take the test again. Since most top B-schools require the GMAT, the students will have little chance of enrolling. "This is illegal," said Judy Phair, GMAC's vice-president for communications. "We have a hard drive, and we're going to be analyzing it. If you used the site and paid your $30 to cheat, your scores will be canceled. They're in big trouble." |

The question is how would they decide who are the members that used the site and then cancel the scores. The members never used their real names. Only thing is their email address. So does GMAC intend to use the email address to identify the cheating students?

There are so many students in China who pay by someone else's credit card. How you can track them?? Moreover there are so many chinese sites which are cheating much more than ScoreTop. What is GMAC gonna do with them? |

Scoretop members to pay the price
change the title my friend,it's scary!! I think people who joined that forum to discuss Qs/download 1000 series are safe. ares666 is probably right, they are going to track students who have bought VIP packages etc Irrespective of whether you have taken the test or not,if you have bought the packages from scoretop, then you are in trouble Last edited by KillGmat : 06-27-2008 at 05:21 AM. |

From the businessweek articles, it seems those who posted debriefings saying that they got many jj's and those who posted real questions in their debriefings and those who accessed such debriefings will have their scores canceled.

Practically speaking, there is no way to track the identity of folks who had posted their test experience or folks who posted real questions unless they bought the VIP package which is again not a mandatory requirement to do the above tasks. It is also impractical to track the identity of folks who have accessed those debriefings. Practically, 1000s and 1000s of people (indeed everyone who has ever visited ST) would have read those debriefings.
