I am new to this forum. I am out of touch of maths for quite a while and preparaing for GMAT from last month. I took kaplan online course too and didn't get good score as yet.
Diagnostic Test - 400 Kap CAT 1 - 450 Kap CAT 2 - 440 Kap CAT 3 - 450 Kap CAT 4 - 470 Kapan Ultimate Test 5 - 520. I have still one month to go but really looking for valuable advice. Please suggest me how to approach. My major weakness is probability, permutation and combination - Please help me, if anyone has any suggestion for me. If you are looking at Math, there are a couple of things you can do.
1) For now forget about probability. You really need to get your score up in Quant and you can do that by picking up all the other relatively easier sections for now. 2) Dont try to solve the questions on this site for SOME time now. The problems posted here, generally are harder and hence will do nothing but dent your confidence. 3)Take one book like Kaplan or Princeton and go through all the math concepts. If you feel that is not sufficient, I would recommend you to buy all the Manhattan GMAT books and go through it throughly. That should get most of your concepts cleared. If you know the areas you are bad at,order those books. Like if number properties is not something you are good at, then use that. I am not sure what your weak areas are and hence am giving a bit generic advice. 3) If you have raised your level in other sections get the book Project GMAt by veritas for probability. That should help you out. 4) Maintain a cheat sheet where you write down all your pitfalls or the new concept you are learning. New brains cells are not synthesized once you hit 20 and supposedly the brain clears out some old existing information to make place for the new (information). That is how I feel, cause I keep forgetting stuff. So start writing them in a cheat sheet which you refer to before taking tests. 5) Take a Princeton exam. That will tell you where you really stand for now. One month is a good amount of time. If you don't work then its plenty. I would recommend making your strong areas foolproof and then dealing with the weaker areas. |

Thanks for your valuable advice. I would really try to work in that direction. I am working professional and have 15 months old baby, so things are not easy but I am trying to lift my standard.
Any comments on the study plan. What do you feel, do I need to put some more extra effort? Weekdays - 2 (1/2) to 3 hrs. Weekend - 4 - 5 hr. Also any advice on private tutoring. I am going to start from this week onwards. Saurabh |

I am in the same boat too. I had been preparing for the past 2 months in a very casual way. I jsut picked up steam in the past onemonth and want to do it in early August.
What i did is go over PR first did all the bins and practices. Remember bin 3 and 4 or quant. is tough (atleast in my opinion). English sections are ok. I then went with Kaplan. Now after spending couple of weeks with some thoer books (I found Barrons to be challenging), I am starting the OG. I did a few paper test but was scoring 75% overall. I did the PR online CAT and got 590. As sooon as I am done with OG I will start the online/CD CATS..After that..KamiKazi !!!!! I am spending good 2 hours on weekday and 3-4 hours on weekends on it now. So that should give you some idea of effort. Good luck..Like someone said..Donot give up.. |
