GRE 1490 - HELP to BIOENGINEERING

Just did my GRE - V=720, Q=770.

I am an international student and seek admission to top PhD bioengineering schools. My question is:

Do schools look at the total? or they look at Q=770 and ask "hmm.. is this guy's math brain good enough for engineering"

International students usually face a stricter selection criteria.. I would be smirking if I got 800 in Quant, but life play tricks.

Please advise Thanks!

I am applying to MIT, Princeton, U of Minnesota and the UC schools.

Your scores are great - congrats! I have heard of some engineering programs requiring 800s (hard for me to believe), but not bioengineering programs. International students are also given some leeway on the quant score, because if English isn't your first language, you can miss subtleties about what a question is asking, and therefore miss a handful of problems. No biggie.

Even if English is your first language I would say there's no real difference between a 770 and an 800. I mean, you've taken DiffEQ and multivariable calculus and maybe statistical mechanics...are they really gonna question whether you can read a pie chart? Seriously.

I agree, those are good scores, but what else is in your application package?

How are your letters of recommendation? Your undergraduate GPA?

How much research experience have you had? What do you plan on using a PhD in bioengineering for? To do more institution research or go into industry? You can address these issues in your personal statement if it's appropriate.

I don't think you should worry about elimination by GRE score.

I have 5 LORs - 3 are very solid. 2 should be good.

My research experience are mostly in the field of chemical engineering (1 x 1st author publication in a local journal) , and not bioengineering... I have 3.5 years of teaching experience in a community college (with excellent appriasals to boast) and am supervisnig a small research project in some chemical extraction experiments (no publication). Gonna use a PhD to find an academia job in the future..

I am non US citizen.

Grades? My 3rd and 4th year were ok ... out of 10 subjects, I had 2 Bs, rest were As. My grad sch GPA (I hv a MS in chemeng by course work) is 4/4 for 1st semester, 3.67/4.0 for the second semester.
