stacypringal,
Though I pay tuition for classroom education, I've been following a "distance learning" format, learning through videos from home and I can very well say I've been managing pretty decently . It all depends upon the individual !

Hi stacypringal, online education is good...if you take the needed steps seriously and take up studying at a serious level. This link [removed by mod] can educate you more on the focus of online learning.

Online courses are good if you have a busy outside of school schedule (work, family, kids, and excreta). You are able to create your own schedule with the schedule that is set by your professor. The only problem I had with it was when I had questions, I would have to email the professor and wait for a response (Can be time consuming when you need an answer right away). Distance learning is advancing where you can chat to others in your class and submit and reply on forums specifically for your classes. Also I would suggest that you have good discipline when taking online classes because you have to be on top of turning in your materials on time, and making sure that you are keeping up with the material. It's easy to fall behind or procrastinate.
Good Luck! |

I think it is good to a point. It also depends on the type of learner you are too. For grad work, I'd recommend in person or at least a hybrid approach. Nothing beats a good in-class discussion and live interaction with a good professor. If you're already in your current organization and you have experience doing your grad work on-line may not be an issue. If possible, get it from a school that has a brick-and-mortar presence as opposed to a purely on-line school like Capella.
There's also the acceptance. A lot of employers may not consider a degree earned on-line as reputable as a brick-and-mortar degree. Fair or not, that's the way it is for the most part. For a PhD, I don't know any universities that will hire a prof who earned their doctorate on-line. In the end you have to weigh the pros and cons for yourself and see if the degree will help you accomplish your goals. |
