thinkdifferent
Hi to all, I'm Italian and I was wondering how to convert Italian grades to US GPA, and also to UK grades. In Italy the mark is up to 30, with 18 as the minimum to pass the exam. The final degree mark is up to 110 (absolute best is 110 cum laude), with some weight given to the final dissertation. That's my situation: Bsc (Italian Laurea Triennale) Computer Engineering 102/110 Msc (Italian Laurea Specialistica) Computer Engineering 107/110 How to convert this figure to compare myself with international students and with all the profiles I see on this forum? thanks a lot
cooldude41
There is no universal formula to convert foreign grades to GPA. Each school have their own conversion process. So, apply to school with your current scores.
TheSocialScientist
Hi thinkdifferent, I dare say your BSc grades roughly compare to a very strong British Lower Second Class Honor or 2:2, borderlline with a 2:1 whereas your 107 is a very decent 2:1. In terms of GPA the answer is much more flexible since every school has its own standards of evaluation, but I would say around GPA 3.3 for your BSc and 3.5 for your MSc: don't take what I am saying for oro colato though (you understand me I guess :) )
Ivy guy
In the US, there are private companies that do evaluations of foreign credentials. You can google search. I wish I can provide names but it is barred in this forum, I think. In the UK, you have to consult NARIC UK, it is a non-profit government agency Good luck
Cambridge
The Italian 107/110 in Law is commonly regarded as a First. However, what Cooldude41 has observed is definitely true. There are various criteria that might be considered when making a conversion, in particular the subject degree, the percentage of students achieving that grade and even the ranking of the University where that degree has been obtained (for example top institutions are The University of Trento, University of Bologna, University of Rome "Tor Vergata" with top positions in the Italian rankings as well as visibility at an international level, something which may count in a selection process).
