Will I get in anywhere at all?
I will graduate in two more semesters (so next April) from a top-50 U.S. university which has a top-20 graduate economics department. Unfortunately, I expect my GPA to be around a 3.2 with around a 3.4 in economics and 3.5 in math. I think my GRE, at least going off of practice tests, will be around 790-800Q and 600V. I should have good letters of recommendation.
One of the problems is that while I did get an A in Calculus 2, it was after withdrawing from it twice. In other math courses, I have done well (B+ to A range) at the first attempt. My desire to study at the graduate level is fairly recent (and thus, my GPA has had its "best moments" very recently, too) and I am aware that my GPA is simply not up to par with most applicants. At this point, my question is: Will ANY graduate program accept me? I know that I have no chance at a top 30 program, but I was looking at some such as Applied PhD at Clemson and the PhD at the University of Houston. Do you have any shot, anywhere? I am hoping that a strong GRE and semi-strong math performance (especially of late) will give me a shot. What is your assessment? Thank you ![]() |
