Cool Resources for Career Change into Economics

I'm looking for economic resources. I've been working in operations of financial services firms for 6 years and in an enterpreniel venture over the last year. I've been very successful in both campaigns, just not satisfied. From poking around this site, it appears that I have quite the uphill climb if I want to find a more personally satisfying career. What are the best sources of information to see:

a) what specific work in economics would be most interesting to me?
b) what qualifications are necessary for said work?
c) what job I could take (if any) right now to better position myself?
d) what programs are best for particular specializations?

Right now I would think that the following would work:

1) Linkedin
2) University Websites
3) This site and other forums
4) CWRU Alumni services/previous professors ('03 BS Mgmt Grad)
5) Economic Organizations' Websites (NBER, etc.)

I'm just wondering if there is another website or book that could approach a one stop shop or an overall guide to the field.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi BostonEconic,

I might not be able to answer your questions but I am in the same boat as you. I have an accounting/IT background and am interested in switching in to econ. I have not come across any useful guides but I'm just going all out and applying to some high end masters programs in the hope that I get in. Let me know if you do find any useful information. From what I've learned, you need to have a strong math background for econ.

zshfryoh1 is on the way!
Are you looking to get a PhD? A terminal MA? After your degree, do you want to work in academia or in private industry or in the govt/NGO sector? What economics topics are you interested in? With a little more info, we can get a better idea of what you are looking for and we can give better advice.

Also, what math, statistics, economics and finance courses have you taken?
