What are my chances?!!!
hey everyone
I am planning to apply for fall'2010 session in USA to do my masters. Here is my profile- Bachelors in Civil engineering.,Bangladesh University of Engineering. & Technology, (the top univ in my country) CGPA-3.18 out of 4, 67.1% (poor i know !!)Class ranking-60 out of 183 students. GRE-Quant-780,Verbal-380 TOEFL( IBT)-Expecting a score around 100. Currently working in a reputed real estate firm. and expecting good LORs from my professors. I m thinking of applying to the following universities- Texas A & M Texas Tech University of Houston-Texas Michigan Tech (hows it?) Michigan State univ University of Dayton University of Kansas Washington State univ San Diego State univ. University of Missouri-Columbia I will apply to 5 schools from the above mentioned list. Can anyone pls evaluate my chances and also recommend my some other schools. Thanx. |

for the schools that you are applying, you should have a good chance. Maybe you may want to apply a few higher ranked schools as well. Dont worry about your verbal score.

@elebele: To be frank, I opine that your verbal score is very less --I hope this objective opinion of mine doesn't disconcert you. I think unless you demonstrate good proficiency of the English language -- which is gauged by your score in the verbal section of the General GRE or by your TOEFL score, it might impede you from pursuing a Masters in the U.S.
But one can attend classes at graduate school to hone their English proficiency. Just as ChiShiFu had said, in a similar vein, I opine that having a verbal score greater than 400 or 500 greatly helps. I think, sometimes, having a low GRE verbal/TOEFL score, might result in the rejection of a VISA. I personally knew people who had a GRE verbal score less than 400 and a TOEFL score less than 85 being denied a VISA but since you claim that you did pretty well at TOEFL it might not cause you any problem. I also can't understand how you managed to convert your percentage into CGPA. Anyways, best of luck! |

@W_guy-Thanks a lot for your encouragement ![]() !@GenGre-well I did not convert anything ..its some method that my uni follows.My transcript has both the equivalent percentage and the CGPA written on it.and I know my verbal score is on a low side.I was nervous and got the first few ones wrong and you know the rest.anyway again thanks for your response ..I really appreciate it. |

Can you guide me in choosing University in USA? Profile Area of Interest : Construction Engineering Management. Only master programme. I am not interested in Phd Background: Master of Urban Planning, Bachelor of Architecture Professional Experience : 7 years (UAE, Oman and India) GRE 700 Q 530 V It is almost 5 month since you have post. Hi everyone!!
I am from electrical background bt i know someone who has done his masters in construction management(civil engineering) the chances are really good for those who are looking for it and it is a very good program..He has done it from Wayne state university(Detroitt) he told me tht it is good university for those who are looking for construction management....and the career oppurtunities are really good |
