MA in economics at NYU
MA in economics at NYU
I will apply for the MA in Economics at New York university starting fall 2010. I Hold a Bsc in Economics from the University of Copenhagen with a GPA in the top 20 pct and a bachelor thesis that was awarded the highest possible grade. I will continue with the Msc. in Economics at the University of Copenhagen this spring. The Bsc. is a 3 year programme entirely in Economics with heavy macro- micro and econometrics elements: Mandatory Courses: Mathmatics 1 Mathmatics 2 Business Economics Descriptive Economics 1 Descriptive Economics 2 Principles of Economics 1 Principles of Economics 2 Danish Economic history International Economic history Philosophy of Science Microeconomics 1 Microeconomics 2 Microeconomics 3 Macroeconomics 1 Macroeconomics 2 Macroeconomics 3 Quantitative Methods 1 Quantitative Methods 2 Quantitative Methods 3 Elective Courses: Industrial Organization Corporate Finance Business Analysis and Valuation (LSE) Monetary Economics, The Economics of Banking Bachelor Thesis The efficient Market Hypothesis and Noise Trader Risk Economics Courses Curriculum has covered intermediate/advanced econometrics, micro- and macroeconomics material. Mathematics courses Curriculum has covered relatively advanced material such as first order differential equations, maximization of multivariable functions under restrictions, multiple integrals and linear algebra. This spring I'm taking an elective course in mathematical analysis covering differential equations of second and higher order, calculus of variations and correspondences. letter of reference: One solid from a professor, and one excellent and very personal from a external lecturer (PhD in econ from Princeton). Test Scores: I haven't recieved my test scores yet but expect GRE scores of 720Q, 4-4.5 AW and around the 50th percentile for Verbal. I expect to score around the 90th percentile in the TOEFL (my english is very good, but my vocabularium not as advanced as it is required in the GRE verbal section). I feel i am able to increase my GRE quant score by retaking the test, but that would require me to go to London (i live in Copenhagen). Work Experience' 2 years as a part time (20 h/week) analyst in Structure Finance at a medium sized european corporate and investment bank. Extracurricular and Volunteer work Member of Student Council at the University of Copenhagen Mentor for international students at the University of Copenhagen Editor in Chief of School Paper in High School Funraiser at Save the Children What do you think my chances are of getting admitted, and will they increase much if i get a, say 740-760 GRE quant score? |
