To those feeling down and dejected.
This post is not for you, who got into every dream school you could think to to apply to. It is not for you, who's thread reads: "IN AT EVERYWHERE, WHAT A DILEMMA!!" It is for you, the person who has gotten numerous rejects in perfect sequential order, some on the same day, and are now feeling down and dejected. It is for you, the admittee without and admitter, the quiet sole who frantically wanders the admission's sites and mailboxes in search for your salvation--your saving grace.
Despite your greatest efforts to share the deep, fervent, celebratory enthusiasm of those around you, it is simulataneously depressing to look around at the other posts and see: "In at Harvard, full funding+tuition, signing bonus, all-paid introductory visit, etc., etc., etc," meanwhile, Nowheresville College, in the farthest corner of anywhere-but-where-you-want-to-be, has not even sent you any good news. And those dark, ominous clouds that were once on the horizon are now squarely over your head. Feeling down is understandable. But all is not lost. Life is not a sprint, it is a cross-country race. Cliches aside, there is hope. I know that it is difficult for some, especially those where the opportunity is not as easily accessible, to imagine waiting a whole year to try again (and yes, wait again...and yes, possibly be rejected, again). But you will be given the opportunity to fortify you intellectual portflio, build your resume, get better preparation in your weakest areas (GRE verbal anyone?). You will have a whole year (and that's not much, but just enough) to take some more classes. Just think, you know where the bar is set now (thanks to those who have shared their successes and defeats here on TM), you know what it takes to get into your dream school. Take the year to regain your balance, polish up the stains on your record (if they exist), take aim, and shoot. I am at once reminded of one of our fellow TMian's approaches: apply to as many schools as humanly possible, and essentially carpet-bomb the entire academic world. I can understand your desparity. And I hope that the admits that you are still waiting on eventually come (in the thickest of envelopes, with the swiftness of a hummingbird). But in the meantime, know that there are many options besides "giving up," in the event that things don't turn out the way you wanted them to. Best of luck to all.

Re: To those feeling down and dejected.
"Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time."
-Thomas Edison Thanks all, it was my intention to just provide an alternative perspective. I have dedicated this coming year to gaining a stronger background in economics (basically the quantitative and modeling stuff) as a prepatory step towards either political science or economic sociology. Which is why I have not applied to top (pure) economics programs, but either smaller programs (which offer the MA only), or schools with a more pluralist approach (eg Heterodox economics programs). I will post my this year's successes elsewhere, soon. My real test will be next year, when I have to apply once again. To Saadsheikh, See the quote above. If the love of your life was clinging on to you, hanging over an infinite abyss, you would certainly keep holding on. Yes, some would argue that these are not "real terms" that I am speaking in. But I would be willing to bet that most people here on this forum would argue that they are pursuing their love or passion. Grad school, in many ways, is an irrational choice. If it is what you love, 3 more tries should not sway you. To All, Please keep sharing your past and present failures, as well as your past and present successes. I am certain that this forum is nothing if not therapeutic.

Thanks Neokeynesian,
Keynes himself was quite an outside-of-the-box thinker for his time. But to keep on subject and to add to your last post, here is another link to heterodox programs in the US and around the world (If anyone is interested). http://www.boisestate.edu/econ/lreyn...20PROGRAMS.pdf
