OhD in economics......i need urgent help here..

my good friends ,
i've been acepted by the University of Alicante (Spain), for their Phd in Quantitative Economics. Does anyone knows if this is a good university or not????
Concerning financial support, they offered me a position equivalent to Teaching Assistant, with no more than four hours per week of teaching load. The monthly salary will be 1100 gross euros (WILL BE THIS ENOUGH TO SURVIVE????).
what can i expect about jobs, with this Phd ?

friends , pleasehelp me here.....cause i have to say yes or no to the PHD committe till the end of this week....

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS for your admission!!!! I donno much about this University in particular, but according to some rankings (worldwide and european) it seems to be a 'mid-top' university. For instance, in econphd.net Universidad de Alicante is just below McGill...just for curiosity, do you have any other offer of admission?

yeah, i know that i was admitted in the University of New Hampshire (USA), but without financial aid for now....cause since i have sent my application too late, all the financial was already given to other student..... but they told me that i would be on the top of the list if any financial aid would be available for this academic year...

although i am still waiting for more results of my applications to Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Universidad Carlos III, Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona.....i will apply to some more european universities like university of Copenhagen or Toulouse I, warwick , essex.....but the the problem with the british ones is the financial aid...

I don't know about the strength of the economics program since it's not my field, but for literature and languages, U of Alicante is well-respected! And, the campus is absolutely gorgeous! If you don't get any better offers (being Carlos III or Pompeu Fabra), I don't think you will regret going to Alicante! Congratuations! and good luck for the ones still pending!

Sincerely, I would rather attend to Alicante and not to New Hampshire...UAlincate has an interesting program and it is better located in most of the rankings which might gives you some clue about the quality of the programs. Now, the course offering looks nice and Vega-Redondo is there!!!!

Mmmmm...I donno about Copenhagen but Tolouse is a hard program to get in....you're right about UK's...financial aid matters a lot and to get it when you're international is hard...I'd rank your offers as follows: Tolouse, Carlos III, Pompeu Fabra, Autonoma, Alicante , others...besides, there're good movility programs so that you can take courses in other european universities...

a news for u all...... i wasn't admitted in Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona.........soooooooo i think i will keep up to Universidad de Alicante....

But i have a question here: does someone knows if it is hard to get a "regular" job (in a enterprise or an academic one), once u have taken a PhD in economics (or even when u finish the course work and start doing the research/dissertation part) ???
