Hey all-
Wow, I recognize a lot of you (Astaroth and ec1234, notably) from other forums I frequent on graduate school. When I say frequent, I mean "check obsessively" along with my mailbox and email inbox, heh. Anyway, on to the stats: GPA: 3.3 Biology with a focus in Genetics/Cellular Biology (Shitty, I know) GRE: 800Q, 640V, 6.0W (94%/91%/97%) Research: 4 years in med school pathogenesis lab. half year in industrial bioresearch lab. half year in biofuels lab. Published Papers: 1 published, 1 in manuscript. Recommenders: Lab PI, Senior Thesis Advisor, Academic Advisor (from Brown, MIT, and Rockefeller respectively) Applied: U of Wash: Seattle (Biology) UCSD (Biology) Albert Einstein (BMS) MIT (Microbio) UMass Medical School (BMS) Emory (Biology) Accepted: None. Interviews: Albert Einstein UMass Medical School Rejected: MIT I'm really worried about my GPA being shitty as well as an overly eclectic courseload (B in cell bio, A in advanced cell bio. too many math courses. too many philosophy courses. but hey, I gotta do what I love). As for UCSD, I wouldn't worry, very very very few people have even gotten interview requests from them. They do stuff on a rolling admissions basis. I think I missed the boat on University of Washington though. |

I don't know how long this thread has been out of use, but I'll take a shot anyway.
My profile: Undergrad GPA: 4.0, from a state university GRE: 740V+760V Research: 1 Year in a molecular genetics plant lab, 8 months in a plant breeding and genetics lab, which includes an undergraduate research fellowship for the summer, 4 months in a muscle biology lab. Possible paper in the pipeline Applying for: Molecular biology and genetics programs, aiming at the higher 50 schools, and a few in the late 90s and 100s. I don't know where I stand, or what I should aim for. Oh, and also I am international. Can anybody suggest anything? |

Hey, pmet
you seem to have quite good research experience and your letters of recommendation will also weigh in a lot in your favor, you should probably venture out a little more, do you have any other schools in mind? |
