Hey people!
If you read my last post, you know this - yesterday i took the GeeMat & i got a score of 740 44v48q.Which i guess is a decent score ![]() But i have a weird situation on hand now . So erin and co, grandmasters , please advise this lost soul.Situation - Due to some reasons i had to postpone my gmat date, and thus i did not know what i would do this academic year. To have a backup , i had applied to indian bschools and got into one (yeah only one i really messed up all the other tests). Its symbiosis inst of buss man. Now this place is supposed to be good, though not excellent, but for placements in india. Thus chances of international exposure are slim. But i definitely want to work , in marketing , in the international markets - one reason is that i am particularly drawn towards sports related marketing[8] and the market and opportunities in india for this specialisation are sad. The other reason is that i had been to france on an international students program last year, where after interacting with people of various backgrounds, i decided i wanted to be a manager on a global scale. Now my background - i grad last year :o(kid) in commerce from univ of mumbai, i have decent undergrad scores, i fulfil the educational requirements, and have a cool gmat score. [^] My undergrad activities include participation in various college activities, basketball at university and national level, editorship of college magazine, diploma in french from the alliance francaise & being part of the team representing india in the students program i mentioned before. So i think my application would be good. BUT , big BUT, i have no work experience except for some banal help in a family business where my only job was getting orders and convincing people to get their stationery printed from us, which i did for the apst one year. Now i know that to stand a decent chance of getting into a good bschool i need at least 2 years of work ex. so i planned to apply two years from now. the problem is that with my qualifications its very very tough for me to get a challenging job in marketing anywhere. Since i have already paid up the amount for the aforementioned indian school, my bankers(read parents) and some general people are convincing me to stick to get an mba from there, get work exp in a good company for two years (local placements are nice) and then apply to US schools. i spent a sleepless night,[bomb] inspite of getting a fabulous score, wondring what to do now..... should i complete an mba in india, then work and then apply....would my chances for acceptance be reduced then? Will my gmat scores be too old by then?Or do i take the big risk of chucking the admit in the indian bschool, work with any kind of job i get for the next two years and then apply?????[V] whenever someone gives me great advice, i gift them a box of chocolates:drunk:...unfortunately i cant do that online:o but i would rrrrrrreally like to know what you think. ciao, shréyas |

Hi 'S'
First of all congrats on your great score. This is really awesome. See, If I'd been in your situation then I'd join Symby (Symbiosis). I'm assuming you don't have a work ex. But eventhough, you can apply for ISB Hydeabad. This is one year MBA, Run by top brass business people in which McKinsey & Co. has a bit stake. Try in ISB one this is a good college. Although, Symbi is a good college, but it doesn't have enough exposure and market value compared to other top 10 Insti from India. For, US MBA better try after having work ex. But to me double MBA is useless. One more thing, no body knows future, you have a chance now better go ahead. |
