TriEcon
It's officially ON. Still haven't heard from any school yet. I need to take a chill pill. (Like NOW.) Ram yes, all we need to do now is setup some tournament brackets and start a betting pool on which applicant makes it all the way to final 5 (harvard, mit, princeton, stan, chi).;)

ramlau
Universitry of Virginia just accepted me Woohoo! Congrats! I'm quite sure there'll be more to come for you. So far I've only heard about good news from schools that I didn't apply... except Johns Hopkins and Maryland... Well, and Duke. Ram I'm right there with ya, ram. I'd share my chill pills with you, but they don't seem to be working. :D The suspense is killing me. It's like watching The Silence of the Lambs when I was 10 years old all over again. Ram P.S. I obviously don't radiate success (yet). I hope soon enough! snappythecrab
I always get so excited when I see that I have a new email. Then its always like 'get 3478262345320 viagra for just $1.' I mean, here I am waiting on an email to somehow justify everything I've worked towards for the last few years...an email that may, I don't know, make me feel a little better about myself? And then here's this email from a perfect stranger informing me that I don't quite stack up. Really, how's that supposed to make a guy feel? Even my email is mocking me. Larami
snappy, I know how you feel. I almost want to tell everyone NOT to email me, because I always freak out when I get a new email... and then slightly bummed when it's not from an econ program. sbanuri
Haa Snappy, just be glad its a stranger emailing you and not an ex... that would be bad.. As for the schools.. I am so tempted to just say "How dare you judge me Sir!! You don't even know me... the quintessential me..." It's all very american idol-ish at this point... :) ~sbanuri

Yeah.:D

asphalt
i suspect that those websites contain some weird level of errors. either that or the admitees were so ecstatic they forgot the date. which happens to the best of us at some point. Zavera
Congrats Zavera. Q: UVA > OSU? Thank you all UVA is ranked 42 OSU = 15 But UVA is a very nice place. Warm, pleasant atmosphere, good funding and overall a real nice place. More relaxed then OSU, but their placements are unfortunately not as good. But hey, now I got options
Starvingecon
Who has OSU as high as 15? I think it might be better than UVA but not that much, based on what i've seen.
andyecon
Zavera- I meant your subjective order. But I take this to mean OSU is still higher, but maybe not by as great a magnitude... or maybe > is just ordinal here. Starving- econphd has OSU at 23 and UVA at 53 in overall rankings. I think Zavera is using Revealed Performance...
Starvingecon
Yea OSU is better I just think 15 is a bit generous, but I'd like a link to the rankings he's talking about though.
snappythecrab
Although I'm usually biased against UVA, I think in Christian's rankings, UVA really gets the shaft, and I think OSU's ranking is incredibly generous. I hate to beat this dead horse once again, but Christian's rankings don't account for dept size, and I think that this is one of the largest reasons why UVA may suffer by comparison. Nominal output is important, but so is output per-capita. That being said, I'd be interested in how the programs stack up. As critical as some may be, the methodology in USNews is legit, and provides a look at how others in the field view the various graduate programs. I think in USNews, UVA may rank around 25 or so? Perhaps somebody with a copy could provide some answers on OSU and UVA. How's OSU's placement record?
vqlong
According to Us News, UVA ranked 27. OSU is just one step below - 28th
snappythecrab
Thanks, vqlong. That's more along the lines of what I'd expect.
aesthetic_ascetic
I've had a few nervous moments already... I applied to Northwestern as one of my safe schools, and early this month I got a big thick envelope, and although it was very early, it was one of the lower ranked schools so I thought I had my first admit... But all it said was, thanks for your interest, here are the application forms... strange, since I had already applied online and send them the SOP, transcripts etc... I wrote to them and they said we apologize, ignore whatever is inside the envelope... But UMass Amherst is one of my dream schools, and when I got a really thin package from them, I thought it was one of those early rejects they send out to the applicants they discard at the beginning... but all it said was, the graduate school has processed your application and your material and has now sent it to the department... And then there are the mails I get from Georgia Tech every other day, supposedly for updates to my status... the only trouble is, nothing seems to have been updated... There's one school, WUStL, which says I'll be getting a decision soon since my application was taken up for consideration quite early... I check my mail every 15 minutes or so but all I get is spam... Hang in there folks! :)
