My guess is that the UCLA admits are only the big fellowship offers. The dept's website says they hand out 7-8 fellowships of $21K a year, and most other people get partial funding. I suppose the rest of us waiting on UCLA know we're not getting the big fellowships, though.

This is purely second hand information, but from a reliable source, and it applies to the chem department, so I am not absolutely positive it is the same for econ...BUT before everyone loses hope...
Someone told me they called UCLA after I posted my acceptance to the Chemistry department and they, UCLA that is, said they had not begun to go over international students applications yet, that they were doing the domestic applications first. This was on Feb 28th. Also I would suggest not losing hope as the people posting on grad cafe were notified today or yesterday. I would wait at least another week before considering suicide, joining the peace corps or the army, or deciding you always wanted to study art..... |

Cutting the same data differently the admits seem to be spread fairly evenly across domestic applicants, internationals, internationals with US degree etc. So no consolation in the possibility that they might be handling one particular group at a time. So yes, I am pretty much inclined to believe that no news from BU will increasingly become bad news over the next week. By the way people, do these fellowships trickle down? For example, the few TMinans with BU admits are - in my opionion - likely to choose different isntitutions. In which case, the places will be rolled over to others, but will the same apply for fellowships? ![]() |

Well I have had the same sorta problem with UCLA and BU as well...
I applied to both schools WAY before the deadline and have yet to hear back from either. I interviewed at BU sometime in Feb and have not heard anything with regards to an acceptance or rejection...and UCLA..well I havent even heard from them since I sent in my application. Eh...well I used to think that if i didnt get into UCLA my life would be over...but honestly....I would hate to go to a school that is this inefficient and inconsiderate to its applicants. I see it as their loss really as they have taken WAY to long to give me a response and thus I have accepted another offer. I did my undergrad at UCIrvine and so I know how beaurocratic the system is....to get ANYTHING done requires 20 forms and 30 signatures and takes weeks if not MONTHS to get an approval for something...so i can only imagine what UCLA is going through hahaha.. Peace~ m
