Flying for me doesn't make sense. It would actually take me hours longer than just driving. So, since I don't own a car, I'm gonna see if they will pay for me to get a rental.

I was told that if I applied to Michigan State, then I should not expect funding the first year. However, they might offer me an additional year of funding for the dissertation.
I think I'm kinda lucky since MSU offered me 4-year TAship including the first year. Anyway, I was told that they usually give funding to most of their students from the second year as well.

I'll be there too. I'm from Iowa, so it won't be that hard to figure out who I am .

Sorry, I shouldn't laugh, Indiana is essentially identical to Iowa, but that was hilarious!

You forgot the pitchfork in the other hand . We joke about our image just about as much as anyone.

We need more humor around here, I think. Everyone is stressed out because of the waiting. It would help lighten the mood and destress everyone a little.

I should note that I wasn't born in Iowa, but I've lived here long enough to be assimilated into the culture. The first night that I spent in Iowa (many years ago), the top story on the news was about a cattle theft. Fortunately, that was a slow news day (I think that they found his cows eventually...teenage prank if I recall correctly). Iowa's not that bad, really.

Shucks! I knew I was forgetting something! But yeah, humor's a good thing right now. I know I could use a good dose of it myself. Between apps and spending my spring break trying to finish honor's thesis, I'm going .

Glad to see there should be a decent turnout for the visit.

I was just glad the 2nd email didn't tell me I got the first on accident and I wasn't really awarded a fellowship. That's how paranoid this whole process has made me.
