I am definitely in the same decision making hell. I need to choose between UMD and PennState. I am not sure about my research area...Any suggestions?
I'd really like to live and NYC. I was admitted to the graduate program in economics in Columbia and NYU, both with fellowship of around $20K. Which department is considered better? I know Columbia improved its faculty significantly in the past two years, but NYU has a very good faculty also. I don't know what my field of research will be, so I'd like to know also the fields of research that NYU and Columbia have leading faculty. Thanks

My impression is that Columbia is on the up and up because the last 5 (or more) years it has been going down and down. (maybe then I'm wrong)Originally Posted by anotheronebrah

It is clearly NYU>Columbia and UMD>PennState you cannot go wrong with such schools.Congratulations guys!
(I'm too lazy to provide some support to my claim but you can browse the internet, check rankings and faculty publications, placement records etc etc and if you find something interesting we can certainly discuss it here.)
