Harvard Magazine had a decent (if self important) take on behavioral econ a month ago:
http://www.harvardmagazine.com/on-line/030640.html I´m a RA on some projects that deal with experimental econ. and I can tell you that it is a great concept that needs a lot of work. Economists (at least none of the ones I work for) are not trained to think like lab scientists and that can sometimes make it very difficult to set up controlled experiments and follow through with them. Funding is also an issue, since human subjects are expensive to work with inside or outside of the lab and usually the people writing the laws/account rules/program rollout do not have a tremendous motive to ensure that control and treatment groups are kept separate. I do agree that neuroeconomics will be a very interesting field of study going forward! |
