advice needed (econ msc)
Hi,
I've been accepted by LSE but unfortunately cannot afford it (no scholarships in my country). As this year there's no time for applying to high ranked but financially less demanded places, I have two options: 1. take a gap year...and apply for 2007/8 to warwick, UBC... 2. do MSc at my home uni (not even in world top500). 3. maybe you know it... Please have in mind that I aim at top20 pdh programmes in the future. Thanks for yor advice! |

If you feel that you will do well in the MSc @ LSE and can proceed to the PhD programme afterwards, it might be a good investment to take a student loan and do the MSc this year.
LSE is no.1 outside US, and certainly top 20 worldwide. Good luck.

Yes I would, but in my country the maximum loan possible for me is cca. 14.000 pounds (=cca $25.000), which is not enough for tuition (16.000 pounds)...what even for food, books, etc..
Do you perhaps know where I could get such a huge loan that would be sufficient? |

Thank you all! Emperor, I think it's not very likely that a first year msc student get a TA position at lse...
I would do msc in my home country...but I just doubt that it would help much (if any) in admission process to high ranked phd programmes...as I am 23 maybe one year is like nothing.... |

Can you defer admissions for a year and make some money in the meantime?
If not, reapply next year - and hopefully you'll get in. Were you a waitlist candidate or offered admissions in the first round? If you were offered admissions from the get-go, i think you stand a good chance to be re-accepted next year. I haven't gone through your past posts recently. Are you aiming to do a PhD afterwards? |

you definitely can defer your MSc at LSE by one year...I would suggest you try to work this year and get some money and go to LSE next year...
However a masters at your home institution could be an option also...you said that it is not in the top 500...however have you checked to see if anyone graduating from that program has made it to a good PhD? |

At Lse I was offered admission in the first round. I will ask for a defferal at the end of june...does anyone know how likely their approval is? Do you know for anyone whose request was not approved?
Yes, I 100% intend to do a good Phd (top20). About my home uni...people with msc got in at Nottingham Uni, Bristol... In the Usa: Indiana, Northwestern (1), Texas, NY, Carnegie Mellon. Last edited by economicus : 06-09-2006 at 07:16 AM. Reason: Automerged post |
