Getting at the truth--however uncomfortable it may be--is my way of helping people.

It's 100/4 = 25 x 100%

And it's not 100 it's 152 times you've posted on this board.

What else do you do asquare besides post on this board?

And what else do I do? Well, thanks for asking -- today I've gone running, played a bit of frisbee, and helped set up for a bbq. Now I'm waiting for some STATA code to finish running -- damn big data set, and I hope it's done before I need to go light the grill, so I can take a look at the results. Oh, and I'm getting my PhD

genius PhD students who live high at bbq parties, ignore inconvenient facts, and defend other grad students incapable of defending themselves with the facts at hand. Did I even say I wanted to go a doctoral program? And why are doctoral students posting on the regular grad web site instead of on the doctoral web sites? Who's the genius who got lost on this website? Also how does a person who writes 7 emails qualify as a bigger whiner than someone who has posted 152 times? Who's the genius who doesn't recognize that 152 is a bigger number than 7? Have I missed the intrinsic coolness of the bbq event, dude?

That's ok with me; I didn't choose my career path or to do a PhD as ways to get rich quick. I love what I'm doing.

When I was applying to grad school, I found comments from current PhD students on this site and others useful. So I post here to answer questions and share information. No big mystery -- there are a number of current PhD students who post here! And as for why we see you as the bigger whiner -- well, I don't whine, certainly not on this discusson board. You're 7 for 7; I'm 0 for 154 :P

I have to say that I appreciate having a doctoral student on this site that gives out advice that may not be well-received. Getting a doctorate or a master's degree can be a both drain on financial and temporal resources. This makes getting advice that can steer one away from actions that are counterproductive even more important. I find having asquare a huge resource and hope that if and when I am in the same position that I have the time, know-how, and integrity to say what needs to be said to those that come after me.
