It is kind of bad. Do you have an internship or work experience in the field of psychology? Do you have research or publications? To be honest, you might want to retake the GRE. I too am a Psychology major and most programs look for at least 900 at the minimum for masters, unless you have an excellent GPA 3.5+. If your GPA is 3.5+ and you have strong recommenders, then go ahead and give it a try. I am applying to Masters and Doctoral programs in Clinical Psychology too.

Hey Psyoutlaw,
I appreciate your feedback....To answer your question..Yes, I have field experience in psychology....No, I do not have any publications or research..not yet at least. I am going to take my Psychology Subject Test first..a few of the schools that I am applying for require both the GRE and the Subject Test for the Master's Program. I am quite positive that my scores will be great when I take the Subject Test...good enough to compensate for my low GRE scores...Then, we shall see what happens.... But, once again..thanks for your feedback..very much appreciated!!! -Roxie- |

Roxie:
You really need to take the Subject Test for Masters programs? I am pursuing Doctoral Clinical programs and I most of them require the Subject Exam. I have not came across any Masters programs requiring the Subject Exam in APA's Psychology Program book. How is your GPA? It is very important to have been a research assistant, thus showing your dedication to the field of research. A lot of programs (Clincal) programs prefer researchers (PhD). But PsyD programs prefer more work experience. I would strongly consider retaking your GRE in late Nov. or early Dec. Best of Luck, Psyoutlaw |

I have been looking into Masters Clinical programs and they are a little more competitive than Masters in Counseling programs. You may want to at least accrue 950+ to have the best chance of getting into a Clinical program. Where are you applying? Why Clinical and not Counseling?

Well, I have decided to take my GRE's again in November. Thank you everybody for your input it is very much appreciated!! Psyoutlaw, as for the Subject Test for Psychology...one of the schools I am applying for requires both the GRE and the Subject Test. I am applying to a few different Universities in New Jersey. Anyway, once again, Thanks everybody!! I will post up with my new and improved scores in November.
