Today I heard one more intersting thing. Merits & demerits of applying for MS/PhD.

It seems the demerits for PhD r more than MS. If got admitted for PhD, then it seems that the advisor signs all our immigration docs.. our release is under him.. our pay depends on him.. practically you r "puppet" under him.

How far is it true?? Any comments??

Bull **** for the puppet part.

All your immigration stuff is taken care by a separate department. You can change your advisor if you are not comfortable with him/her.

Merits and Demerits are on personal level. Funding ofcourse depends on him but there are other avenues for PhD students in terms of research unnder a different proff or a departmental funding.

Thank you for the comments,

1 more thing. What would be the subtle differences in our statement of purpose & recos. if at all we apply for PhD, apart from applying for MS?
