    hi all

I am interested in MS/PhD in CS (Computer Graphics)... my GRE is 2000 (V 550, Q 800, A 650), not that great (I took it in Sep 2002 and don't plan to give it again)... My GPA = 7.8/10 (Bachelors in CS from a respectable institute from india)... and have done some projects in CG in research organization.
have given the Subject GRE in Nov... results awaited...

Can you pl help me in shortlisting the univs that are great in Graphics, Visualization, Virtual Reality and Vision... I hope there are pple with similar intrests as that of mine...

I know of the following univs that are good in CG (but feel that my credentials might not be that good to make it in)... hope it helps those who have a good overall standing:-

    Stanford
    UIUC
    U of Washington
    UNC Chapel Hill
    Brown

Can anyone suggest me some middle tier and lower tier univ that are good for CG...
I'll be grateful for your help.

dude I m also a CG guy and I think you shudnt forget UIC, even though earthlings refer to it as a safe app but the fact is tht it has very fine CG laboratory and some cool VR research goin on. UIUC is simply faaaaabulous.

One more university I have heard of a lot in CG field is Carnegie melon univ. stanford is hard to get in with aid and without aid it is very costly.

I will research more abt univs and tell you the results.

    Hi guys,

    I am ketan. I have got 1370 ( 620 + 750 ), gave on 10th.

I am looking mainly for CG related MS. Not much interest in PhD as of now.

I would be happy if anyone has shortlisted anything.

    bye

ketan... another CG guy great... whats your profile... have you given the Subject GRE? GPA? College? Work Ex?

u might have to shortlist your own univ... try looking at the following (apart from those i've already mentioned):-

    Caltech
    Cornell
    Ohio State U
Penn State (if you are interested in vision)
    Columbia
    USC

I'll be glad if anyone can append something to this list...

    Hi radhanwa and other.

    I am ketan gave my GRE on 10th got 1370 ( 620 + 750 ), not good
I have workex for 3 yrs on MRI system and on image display etc. Currently doing ground work / basic study for display/viz work.

I am in dilema. I want to work in CG area as you guys have mentioned.
But problem is that there is no point in doing MS as It is not gona help directly. I talked with some friends who have done MS, it does not effect is bottom line.
So what is point of doing MS and doing same sort of work for 3-4K$pm ?

    What are other's thinking.

Only one options is to do PhD in CG and spend 4-5 yrs. Which is making me think ..

I have not listed any universities, but agree with your list. Since many are top tier not sure what are success rate for me !!

I guess we can add Stony Brooks.
Columbia has good work in animation and simulation (CAVE)
    Stanford is HEAVEN.

One place I saw MS in HCI ( human computer Interface ) not pure graphics ( GVUniversity)

    So what are others input.
    bye

Ketan which company are you in... (u can send me a private message)... I haven't seen many companies doin work in Medical Imaging / CG in India... I think your present job is good enough if you are satisfied with it...
PhD is a better option than MS and if you have planned to do it then go for it directly (without an MS contd to PhD)... Since u've already got the relavent work-ex, I think its better for you to go for a PhD (I've heard that PhD is tougher to make into as compared to MS.. soo shortlist univ accordingly).

What abt Subject GRE... have you appeared for it ? It might be recommended by some top graduate schools (like Columbia)... are you takin it??

Stony Brook is good (this univ is among the cheapest univ in US... tution is low and Intrl students can manage without aid... chances of aid are so-so)

GWU - Its good in CG... but no overall ranking... Does anyone know how this univ is regarding graduate studies ??

    Hi,

I have not given Sub GRE, not thought of it. Even TOFEL is not done. Need to take another break.

Some work in image processing, viz does happen in india, some good !!
But not same as what you can do in US. ( simulation, CAVE realted, rendering , radiocity etc and all pure graphics )

I am actually late for next yr I guess.. never could decide how much MS will benefit etc. Still in dilema.. don't know where to apply also..

Please keep me posted about what are you doing and where are you applying
    and what is final selection.

what are you going for ?
Will MS satisfy for your CG intension. I am not very sure !!

    bye
