I'll not comment on your chances based on your scores... It also depends on the places you apply...
Since I know a bit abt your selection, I think It wld be no prob for you to get an accept... you have safe bets in your app...
doont worry and give it the best shot.

thnx guys :-))))))

But I m thinking of retaking GRE general test. Sunxcat can you tell me how you felt abt your both sections, the second time you took your test. I mean did you find them easier or more tough.

the first time I took the test I wasnt well and I nearly blacked out in front of comp but univs will not consider this situation so I m again n again coming to one conclusion tht I must retake it.

yup randhawa, thts the reason I have kept some safe apps but if univs look more closely to other factors can they overlook GRE. some ppl say yes and sum say no. but thts risky. but anyways I m ready to take any chances.

thnks guys once again :-)))))))

hi vinay,
retaking GRE after 1370 ??!! wow....then you r real good aspirant !!!
ok, now...to yur qs....i usually got scores above 1300 in my practice tests. but, annoyingly, I landed up with just 1200 in my first real gre. and the prob. I really got tensed up there, and RCs were damn tuf for me...3 120line RCs !!! I really got busted there. but, I know I could perform better, so gave a shot at it again...got a decent score 1420. but, 2 b frank with u, this time, my verbal was pretty easy with straight qs.
I dont know when you r retaking gre...but if you r sure on tht, better take-up asap bcoz you r already running out of time !! do you want 2 b a late applicant ??!! but, I feel you can...definitely get into a real good school with this score since everything(gre, toefl, tse, acad%) is cool and is in yur favor. but, mayb, you can retake to get a better quant score, but tht shudnt lessen yur verbal, for itz simply cool !!

All the best !

thts why I m confused whether to retake it or not coz I dont have sufficient time at my disposal. But frankly speaking this quants is very low so this is making me to think abt it again n again.

Hi Vinay,
You should take the exam, Vinay, your Q is very low due to your illness, and I am
sure you will get a much higher score with a healthy body.
You may not have enough time, but you should take it no matter what, many people are
rejected with q800 today and unfortunately you may be the next victim. You will apply to two or three schools less but you will not regret later because you are rejected as a result of low q.
Good Luck

vinay...
I feel you can make it to real good schools. believe me, you have all aspects(gre score, TOEFL score, gpa, tse score) really tuned and great !! quants score is not the only thing to be taken into consideration.

Think of this >>
...app to preferred 3-4 schools
...retake gre(b sure tht you wont lessen yur verbal score)
...in case you get an admit of yur choice, well, thtz gr8 !
...if not, app with the new score for spring'05/fall'05

think bfore you act...all the best !!

Vinay,

I hope my input is not too late. Indeed, 700 in Quants is a bit low for CS admissions. I actually don't know of anybody (and I know lots of people) who got with 700s into CS Ph.D. I do know people with 300s and 400s on verbal, but not low scores on Q. So, If you are confident and have enough time, I'd retake it again concentrating just on the quants to get a 800.

However, as some said, GRE scores are only one part of the app. If you have strong research experience and your aspirations perfectly match one of the professors at the university (and you can contact him/her), then you will have no problem. Some people even suggest to indirectly mention your low scores on the GRE if needed...but you will have to find a very subtle way to do that.

Anyway, I hope you get your apps rolling!! Good luck to you dude! All the best!
