PhD Math!
Hi friends
I'm furnishing a few details that might help you evaluate where I stand a chance. Am currently pursuing my MS in math at a reputed institute in India. GPA is calculated on a 10 point scale... My CGPA happens to be 7.69 ( on the lower side due to certain applied math courses) Have undergrad research experience from a premier institute...but no papers published.. expecting 2 good letters of recommendation...one decent one. GRE: Quants : 780 , Verbal : 600 TOEFL : 113 Math subject test: scores not yet received...but am not expecting it to be great! Where do you suggest I apply?? |

IISC and IIT will certainly help you a great deal !! Your class rank will be very important though I have seen on the UC Berkeley website that they "like" to see 70% marks from IITs and 60% (first class) from other schools.
Mumbai University has been sending students to the US for ages and so is also pretty well known there. You could apply to some good schools, but I reckon that a 780 quant would be on the lower side there... The research position from IISC will be well appreciated. However, what about MS research? As a MS student, you will be expected to have significant publications. But yes, IIT will help you in a long way. |
