Rotman tops in Canada, Ivey a close second, Schulich NOWHERE close.

Again Schulich (York University) continues its tumble in the global MBA rankings scene. I am astounded at how low the Schulich MBA graduate salary really is!! The salary is dismal - forget for a tier 1, 2, 3, school but for even a tier 5 school. There are many reasons for this- based on what I've heard from peers and colleagues here in Bay Street, Toronto. First is a very high number of mediocre/poor international students (74%) that discourages local business students from attending the institution. Second is its pool of 'underclass' domestic applicants who haven't accomplished anything of significance in their working lives (often with no work experience at all)

If you think about it, there's a process of self selection that goes on when candidates are looking at what MBA schools to attend. Based on their current situation, and position, they look for a school that will drastically improve their salary/job prospects (afterall they're investing a great deal of time, not to mention money). The higher the ending salary, the higher the quality of applicants - it's just that simple folks. If one is happy graduating and earning this 78K; the candidates that apply to Schulich certainly haven't accomplished much. Using myself as an example, I have an undergrad from Queen's and am earning just 15K short of their 'graduates' salary, 2 years out of school. Why on earth would I want to go there?

In reference to these rankings, if you actually read them carefully, Rotman is ranked 1st amongst the Canadian schools at a 3 year average rank of 30, and 2008 rank of 40. Schulich is 2nd at 38 and 48 respectively. Western is 3rd, at 42 and 53 respectively. Queens did not make the top 100 schools, neither for 2008, nor for 3 year average.

I actually find this post offensive for many reasons, and think that it should be removed from these boards.

To imply that a high percentage (74%) students are international and therefore mediocre is truly not representative of the mindset of most people in higher education, and certainly not in Canada. The comment reeks of racism.

If the original poster dug a little deeper into published stats, s/he would find average years work experience (>2), GMAT stats, etc. that fly in the face of the assertions made in this post about an 'underclass' of domestic applicants who have accomplished 'nothing of significance' in their lives. Where is the data to back up these statements?

Because of the wide variety of specializations at Schulich (e.g. Arts & Media, Non-profit Management, Business & Sustainability) there is a significant percentage of Schulich grads that aspire for the type of career that offers a different type of reward and not necessarily the highest paycheque possible. Not everyone is motivated by money and superficial values (and I don't mean to suggest or imply that people looking for high salaries are superficial).

I suggest that the OP actually DO some research rather than rely on hearsay and speculation - particularly when speaking to an academically inclined audience where research and support for one's assertions do actually count - before posting such ridiculous misinformation in a public forum.

I totally agree with you halcyon.
Failure establishes only this, that our determination to succeed was not strong enough.
