Hi,
Kindly hlp me rgds the colleges I shld apply to. I have been working for almost 2 and half years in electronics design in Intel. I graduated in 2001 from a state college. I want to pursue my MS/Ph.D (finally aim for a Ph.D) in US univ. my scores being: GRE : Q-800 , A-770, V-500 TOEFL : 287 , essay- 500 I do happen to have rank 1 during my entire undergrad. The colleges which conduct research in the field I am interested in happen to belong to the top 20 list. Kindly evaluate my chances........ thanks a lot. |

hi shreyag,
good score ! intel employee ? cool !! it would b better if you could specify yur research field(is it electronics designing?!! - embedded systems ??!!) and the schools you prefer to apply rather than beginning from the scrap ! hey...u got 500 in yur essay ?!! (should be 5 !) |

hi,
I am sorry the essay score was a typo. thanks for your reply. i want to do research in vlsi systems, in particular cache design. the colleges I am referring to are umich, purdue and cmu. do I have a chance if I apply(i am an Indian)? thanks, shreya |

hi shreya,
With yur GRE score alone, chances at cmu,umich are bleak. but, yur work experience in a leading company like intel should definitely help you out ! purdue is a good try for yur score ! but verify whether purdue requires AGRE ! To get the best reply for yur qs, mail to univ profs/students. Profs. know the exact situation @ their univs and infact can fetch you an RA if they are convinced with yur research experience. I guess you know the format while mailing to Univ.profs !! cheerz ! |

sunxcat - I donnt think there's any requirement of CS AGRE for applying into the Comp Endineering Department...
CS AGRE is only reqd by CS dept. shreyag - I feel your work ex will count a lot.. If you fashion your SOP accordingly, you can make into UM-An Arbor, Purdue... (donnt know abt CMU)... |

hey shreya,
if you can find some other prof. of yur choice in the school, try mailing him. You can even mail current students there(they'll give a rough idea of the existing scenario there).if you r mailing students, mail atleast to 5, bcoz you never know who will answer and who will not. Moreover, you may even get different perspectives. But, do everything simultaneously bcoz deadlines r fast approaching. Still, if you dont get any replies, GO AHEAD AND APPLY !!! All the best !! |
